For decades now, decisions about your water system have been made in the interest of faraway shareholders.

Now’s it time for you to have a say.

Following on from the huge success of Channel 4’s ‘Dirty Business’, Windrush WASP campaigners Ash Smith and Peter Hammond have launched a government petition for a referendum on the ownership of our water sector.

Whether you live in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or England, you can be part of shifting the debate on public ownership. Can you take 1 min to sign the petition now?

Just today, the government responded to the petition. They’ve said that ‘the government has no intention of nationalising the water sector currently’.

That’s exactly why we need to make sure that this petition gets to 100,000 signatures.

Because the 8 in 10 Brits who want water in public ownership deserve to be listened to.

And once we reach 100,000 signatures, the petition will be up for a debate in parliament.

A parliamentary debate will be a huge opportunity to keep building momentum around public ownership. We can bring all of the undeniable arguments for public ownership of water in front of even more MPs.

Can you make sure that we get there?

Have your say: sign the water referendum petition

Last year, Chancellor Rachel Reeves received £27,000 from a lobbying firm owned by KKR, who were trying to buy Thames Water.

When Emma Reynolds came into post as Environment Secretary in September, she promptly sat around the table with lobbyist body Water UK, to ‘consider how to incorporate Water UK priorities into decision making effectively’.

Lobbyists have had their turn shaping our water sector. And they’ve created a broken system, which is destroying our environment and emptying our pockets.

You pay for - and depend on - our water system. It’s time for you to decide.

We’re already on over 60,000 signatures. Can you be part of making sure it gets to 100,000?

Sign the petition now for fairer water

Thank you so much for everything that you do to build a water system that prioritises people and planet, not profit.

In solidarity,

PS Thank you so much to the many (many!) of you who have written to your MP, asking them to sign our open letter to Ofwat and Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds. Because of you, over 70 MPs have now signed!
